Row over fresh BEd exam schedule Thursday, 26 September 2013 16:33.Srinagar: KDNN Share Accusing University of Kashmir of backtracking from their commitment of conducting the exams late in October, scores of BEd students from valley Thursday alleged that the ‘haste’ in the release of the revised date sheet was only to favor the non locals studying in private colleges. “They are serving the interests of non locals without caring for our future,” a student wishing not to be named said. He added that the authorities had promised them to conduct the exams after October 20, but now following the private college principals meet on Wednesday they have issued a revised date sheet only to please the non local students who have been paying 30,000 rupees more what the locals pay to college authorities for the course. “Check the attendance of the non local students, you will see how much they have become darlings of our college administrations. They never attend classes, neither do they attend the teaching practice sessions. The only thing they do is to give huge donations and bribes to the managements,” alleged the students, adding that now the non locals have began dictating the university authorities also. “Now it is non locals who decide about the dates of examinations, results, admissions and everything pertaining to BEd,” claimed the local students. University authorities issued a press release stating that the exams of the BEd students would commence form October 10 and the revised date sheet has been uploaded on the varsity’s website. A senior officer in the university saod on condition of anonymity that though the exams were over due, however the decision had to be taken owing to the ticket reservations of the non locals who are reluctant to sit in the exams during cold season. “The private colleges have created mockery of the BEd examination. If this is what we were striving to privatize education sector for, then I am sorry to say, we would be ruining the future of our generations to come,” said the officer. The students said that they were mulling to boycott the examinations, however, they added that the decision would be taken after taking majority of the students across the valley into confidence.[JAVID HASHMI BHAT MIRPORA CHAKOORA PULWAMA]
