Rowing machine meets Northern Atlantic row boat crossing by a woman nonetheless! Most of you probably have used the rowing machines at your local gym. You may have rowed a strong 5000 meters with the watchful eye of the trainers and other gym users to then have a nice warm shower, and than grab an exotic drink at your local java shop. The person next to you during the workout could have been anybody, including a woman, a hospital orderly called Mylene Paquette. Well how about rowing 5000 kilometers from Halifax to the shores of France, alone in a seven metres long fiberglass vessel which is woman-powered. That is sure to change the comfort level you have at the gym. The great outdoors certainly change things considerably. How many times have you thought of giving the gyms rowing machine a name like say - Hermel Lavoie. Mr. Lavoie, himself an old sea dog, helped Montrealer Mylene Paquette develop her critical boat systems, setting up automatic pilot, solar panels, wind turbine for a GPS navigation and water purification systems etc.... to function against so many unfavorable odds. How about taking your rowing machine and sitting it over top the cold, wet, choppy waters of the North Atlantic, with a few unforeseen, and extremely dangerous Northern Atlantic water dips just for good measure. Fewer than dozen people have tried this crazy challenge. Only two were solo women. Im very proud I endured, that I never gave up What goes through your mind in such a lonely, damp, and harrowing 130 day adventure?
