Royal Drakensberg Primary School is situated in the Northern Drakensberg, close to the magnificent Amphitheatre. It is an independent school and this year has just over 60 children. It provides a quality education to the children of this rural area, giving them a chance to overcome their disadvantaged backgrounds and go into the great wide world to become the masters of their own futures. Most of us wish this for our children - the opportunity to strive and become whatever their hearts imagine. What happens when the options are not there? We fight, we work harder and we do our utmost to make a plan. The good news is that we have been making it happen. Started in 2007, Royal Drakensberg P S, has seen incredible progress in the children. We have watched them grow, we have witnessed their delight in learning and we have been privileged to send them off knowing that their safe nurturing start will always stand them in good stead whatever the challenge. Our school has children from pre-school to Grade 5. We give them a solid foundation and then they move on to bigger schools to continue their education. As our children grow older we need to look at how we continue to make it work. After leaving us some children do continue to need financial backing and so we ‘hatched’ the 40-series - 40 days and 40 hikes to raise awareness for Education in our area.
