Royal Marine Mum... I watched you step out of the car, Standing so proud and true, I wiped a tear from my eye, It didnt seem like you. What happened to that little boy, We sent to Lympstone that day, The one so full of boyish charm, Always ready to go and play. I took a minute, I looked real hard, I gazed into your eyes, I couldnt put my finger on it, and then...to my surprise... I realised the boy had gone, And a man had come into my dreams, This man before my very eyes, Is now a Royal Marine. Hes been to places not many understand, Not sure he always had, But still he went willingly, To protect against the bad. Of things hes seen, of things hes done, Im sure Ill never hear, But the fact he stands before me now, Eases all my fears. He took his hand, and wiped my face, Then asked, whats wrong today? I placed his face between my hands, Then whispered my boy he went away. He smiled, and kissed my rosy cheek, Then wiped another tear, Then stood real tall, in his bootneck rig, and said Mum, Im right here. Dave Lilburnn
