Rub-a-dub-dub! Those of you who arent familiar with the process - TopicsExpress

Rub-a-dub-dub! Those of you who arent familiar with the process involved in painting a classic car may be surprised to learn that every minute spent in the booth spray painting is proceeded by at least an hour of preparation. And preparation is just a nice word for shaping, sanding and rubbing. Over the last week or so I have shared many photos of our fabulous 69 Chevrolet Chevelle Resto-mod build. These photos invariably contain freshly painted surfaces, machined suspension components and shiny engines. Well, tonight I thought I would showcase some less glamorous, but nevertheless essential, aspects of preparing a car for paint along with some of the unsung heroes of the paint shop (read poor bastards). You will see in the photos below that our Detailer Dave has scored a couple of the more tedious jobs...prepping the inside surfaces of the boot lid and bonnet and the dreaded door jams. Our Apprentice Alex has been allocated the inside of the doors and the task of wet rubbing the inner guards. Roland has been managing the preparation process, so he has put himself on the firewall and beaver panel. As tedious as these tasks may be, if each is not completed to a high standard the final paint job will not meet our high standards nor the expectations of our customers. So hats of to Dave, Alex and Roland for doing the hard yards. The first colour is expected to be applied tomorrow evening to the firewall and inner guards. This is a big milestone for the job and will be provide the first clues as to how the car will look when completed. Exciting times! Cheers Leon
