Rugby Report Waihi Snr Reserve rugby team is just one win away from winning the title after a convincing semi final victory 38-0 over Waihou on Saturday. From the opening whistle, Waihi took control with their forward pack dominating, allowing Waihis classy back line to cross for four first half tries. Waihis first try was a great individual try to in form fullback Shay Perkinson, beating several would be tackles, to score close to the posts. Aaron McLeod scored a double and Ethan Palmer completed the first half scoring, allowing Waihi to lead 24-0 at halftime. To Waihous credit they remained competitive making Waihi work much harder in the second half. Using their bench players to good effect, Waihi again stepped up the pace over the final quarter to run in two more fine tries, to Hjoze Manuel and Bradley Seymour to push the score out to 38-0 at the final whistle, a great dress rehearsal for their big final against Hauraki North next Saturday on finals day in Thames. These sides have already met 3 times over the current season with every game going to the wire. Another very close struggle is expected.. Waihis forward of the day went to hooker, Tom Mathis with a tireless 80 minute effort. Midfielder, Aaron McLeod picked up back of the day. Get over to Thames on Saturday for the 12.30 kick off to cheer the boys on in their quest to win the senior B championship.
