Rugging /clipping advice please ? I have an extremely hardy Dales/Cobby type . He could easily live out all year with no rugs, and has done with his previous owners for the last couple of years. Last winter I had only just bought him and moved him to a new yard. I kept him completely natural and only had a thin lightweight on him a number of times in extreme conditions. This would all be perfect for him however yard rules mean that throughout the winter months , horses must be in on nights and sometimes kept in for a few days to rest the field if the weather is really bad. The problem is, he sweats up ALOT when in to the point that I am coming up in the morning and he is damp from sweat around his neck and chest. He has a very thick mane , so I plait it up when hes in to avoid him sweating so much underneath. He is TERRIFIED of clippers and destroys rugs within days but I dont like the thought of him being damp in the stable over night . Ideally Id like him as natural as possible , due to my novice mother having to deal with rugs etc some nights when Im at work but surely being stuck in his stable damp and sweating all night cant be good? Or am I worrying too much ? Has anybody else been in this position, and if so- what did you do? Thanks in advance x
