Rumbling and tumbling through the defense, he knows the pain is on its way. Running across the middle of the field, he sees the ball spiraling through the wind, just above the fingertips of the defensive line. Even as he leaves his feet, stretching for the catch, his mind knows whats coming next. Padding from head to foot will not deflect the piercing, impending pain, but his focus is on the ball. The team needs him to make the catch and take the hit to move one step closer to the games victory. From heavens throne to humanitys cradle, Jesus knew that the pain was on its way. Living in the midst of sin-soaked souls, He moved fearlessly for the fulfillment of Gods mission. Jesus stretched out His arms upon a Cross, knowing what was coming next. Nothing would deflect the piercing pain He was to face, but His focus was on Gods glory. He became the sacrifice for Gods glory and humanitys rescue. As we step up to the scrimmage line, we stand with every member of Christs missionary team. From the blocking back to the tackle, from the center to the tight end, we have a wondrous purpose to fulfill. There are no spotlights resting on any of the team, save the Captain of our salvation, Jesus Christ. God has called together His people to fulfill His mission. As missionary followers of Christ, God has filled us with His Spirit, energizing us with gifts, service, and activities to display His glorious grace. The Spirit supremely equips us for the wondrous task of honoring God and bringing His rescue to humanity.
