Rumi lived in 13th century Persia. On the departure of his mysterious teacher and beloved friend, Shams of Tabriz, Rumi wrote more than 20,000 odes and quatrains of purest passion, so establishing one of the greatest poets, philosophers, and sufi saints of all time.
