Ruminations and Reflections - Wednesday, March 12th Season of Lent – Day 7 “I lift up my eyes to the hills – from where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2 For those of us who place our trust and hope in God, on our best days this is our perspective. When our spirit is pointed in the right direction we are determined to reach beyond our distressing, or even dire, circumstances and look to God. We get into trouble when our gaze remains trained on our problems, when we obsess on the difficulty of the situation, when we give up hope of ever getting out of the wilderness because there is no path in sight. One of the fundamental truths we claim about the nature and power of God, is that God seems to delight in making a way when there is no other way (que up video footage of Egyptian bondage, the Red Sea, manna in the wilderness, water from the rock……and, oh yes, death and resurrection!). No flippant religious clichés here. Life can be horribly hard, there is no doubt. And faith doesn’t prevent suffering or hardship. But on our best days, our faith can show us where to cast our heart’s gaze…. Blessings, Pastor Randy Rock Grove UMC
