Rumors about Facebook getting into the smartphone business have been circulating for months now, but it looks like things are finally starting to line up for the social networking company. Facebook has now partnered up with Taiwan-based phone company HTC to produce an Android phone that emphasizes the social aspect of all things mobile. In an interview with AllThingsD, a Facebook representative said recently that “Our mobile strategy is simple: We think every mobile device is better if it is deeply social. We’re working across the entire mobile industry; with operators, hardware manufacturers, OS providers, and application developers to bring powerful social experiences to more people around the world.” HTC have already been working to integrate social networks more deeply into their phones, having even included a dedicated button for Facebook sharing. While this partnership makes a lot of sense, what doesn’t make as much sense is that Facebook has also mentioned that their upcoming phone has been code-named “Buffy”—after the television vampire-slaying character. We’ll just leave it at that.
