Running down some Monday news after a great fight this weekend Roy Jones Jr is stepping back inside the ropes once again. After a year and some change layoff now at the age of 44 he has decided to take what he calls a tune up fight against cruiserweight Bobby Gunn whos last fight was a RTD against James Toney after he broke his hand and could not continue. No date and location has been set at this point. Roy Jones is tuning up in hope to eventually land a fight with MMA star Anderson Silva who actually called out Roy Jones saying he would willingly fight inside a boxing ring instead of inside the octagon. More news on that as it comes. Continuing our trend of past their prime fighters who dont need to fight anymore, next up is James Toney. James Toney the one time supremely skilled middleweight champ now campaigning as a heavyweight has joined the Britain vs USA Prizefighter card on November 14th at the New York Hall in Bethnal Green East London. Toney is dangerously continuing his hall of fame worthy career, at the age of 45 he appears to be showing beginning stages of pugilistic dementia as he slurs his speech heavily. Its sad that promoters and managers are still eager to make a buck off someone who is honestly in need of medical help. James Toney was once one of the best fighters in the sport, showing beautiful technical boxing ability with supreme in ring IQ. You can only wonder what his career could have been if he actually took boxing serious. Joseph King Kong Agbeko has decided to work with trainer Roger Mayweather for his upcoming fight against Super Bantamweight king Guillermo Rigondeaux December 7th on HBO. Agbeko is looking to get his career back on track after suffering back to back losses to Abner Mares in 2011. After breaking free from Don Kings wrath he was unable to get a rubber match with Mares and did not fight at all during 2012. He fought March of this year in his home country of Ghana winning a easy 12 round decision against Luis Melendez. Juan Manuel Lopez the former Puerto Rico mega star is now working with prominent trainer Pedro Diaz who as many of you know is recognized for his work with the Cuban Olympic boxing team, and his work with fighters Miguel Cotto and Guillermo Rigondeaux. Diaz had Lopez undergo medical tests to ensure the fighter was medically cleared to continue his career after suffering knockout defeats in all 3 of his losses. The last one to rising star Mikey Garcia who put Lopez away inside of 4 rounds this past June. Now that they have the green light he says they will start the recuperation process and attempt to reorganize Lopezs career.
