Rushmore (1998) - Sophomore Max Fischer attends Rushmore Academy, - TopicsExpress

Rushmore (1998) - Sophomore Max Fischer attends Rushmore Academy, an elite private school, on a scholarship. While he is a weak academic student, Max exhibits exemplary class spirit by participating in every club imaginable. Max bonds with the wealthy industrialist, Mr. Blume, after hearing his address to the school. Unfortunately, both Max and Mr. Blume are attracted to Miss Cross, an elementary school teacher, and a most unusual love triangle ensues. This is a beautiful film about the joy and pain of life, as Max, Mr. Blume, and Miss Cross are all wayward souls in search of meaning, love, and happiness. Most of all, the script concludes with the hopeful thought that we can atone for past mistakes and make amends with the people for whom we care. Jason Schwartzman completely embodies Max, and both Bill Murray (as Mr. Blume) and Olivia Williams (as Miss Cross) imbue their characters with the sense of loss that comes with a life lived. The script is full of scenes that manage to be both laugh out loud funny and poignant at the same time. I strongly, strongly recommend this film. It is must-see if you are in any way a Wes Anderson fan.
