Russian Republic of Crimea : Fly combat drills On TOP of a Sukhoi Su-30 A Su-30M2 fighter jet of the 62nd Fighter Wing equipped with a GoPro camera took off from Belbek military air base, Wednesday to conduct a test flight over Crimea. It was accompanied by a fourth-generation Su-27 fighter, also known as a Flanker, practising air-to-air combat manoeuvres and patrols. The Su-27SM and the Su-30 are two of Russias most advanced and powerful fighters. Renowned as all-weather super-manoeuvrable fighters they are known for their ability to strike from any angle. The Su-27 is a long-range jet equipped with a 30 mm GSh-30 cannon. It has a broad air-to-air and air-to-surface missile arsenal: it is able to carry up to eight Vympel R-77 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles or six KAB-500KR and KAB-500L Guided Bombs. Alternatively it can deliver up to four Kh-29T/L, Kh-31P/A anti-radar/ship missiles or Kh-35 anti-ship missiles into combat depending on the mission. The Su-30 is based on the Su-27 and like the older plane can be used in air-to-air and air-to-surface engagements. It packs an even more powerful punch with a 30mm GSh-30-1 cannon and 12 so-called Hardpoints to hold missiles or missile systems under its wings and fuselage. It can carry up to six air-to-air (either R-77, R-27ET, R-73E, or R-77 missiles) and air-to-surface (Kh-31) missiles, laser-guided missiles (Kh-29) as well as conventional bombs. The aircraft is also equipped with anti-radiation missiles. Although four Sukhoi Su-30 and 10 SU-27SM arrived at the Belbek Air Base on the peninsula a week ago, the base expects another 10 interceptor units. #Russian #Crimea
