Rydalmere- A man will appear in court after he allegedly attempted to rob a man and a teenager in Rydalmere on New Years Day, while armed with a firearm. About 12.30am (01-01), a 45-year-old man was walking with a 15-year-old teenage boy in a park at the end of Fallon Street, when they were approached by a man, allegedly armed with a handgun. Police have been told the armed man threatened the pair; however they continued to walk away, attempting to ignore him. The armed man followed the pair to Fallon Street, allegedly continuing to threaten them with the firearm. The 45-year-old then assaulted the armed man, causing him to lose control of the firearm and fall. Emergency services were called and the injured man, aged 24, was taken to Westmead Hospital, to be treated for a cut to his ear. The man and teenager were uninjured during the incident. Following inquiries, officers arrested the 24-year-old at a home in Greystanes. He was charged with robbery armed with a dangerous weapon.
