S.O.A.P. for 10/8/2013 “How Big are my two coins?” Scripture: Luke 21: As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” Observation: How often do we think we are giving to God in the way that we should…when in fact, much of the time we are like the rich putting their gifts in temple treasury…Thinking that we are being so good when really we are giving out of convenience rather than sacrifice. It amazes me that Jesus is so consistently different in His thinking than how the “world” thinks. He considers the woman who gave so little…as giving so much. Truly her gift was a gift of sacrifice rather than out of convenience. Application: I need to start by asking the question: How sacrificial is my life towards the things of God. Are there areas that I hold back because of my “worldly” thinking? And is there areas in my life that I need to be more sacrificial. Is it time, money, prayer, Bible reading??? How big are my two copper coins? Prayer: Father God, help me be sensitive to your will and plan in my life. If there are areas in my life that need to be more sacrificial, catch my attention by your Holy Spirit. Lord, I don’t want to be led by guilt or by the comparison of other people’s lives, but I do want to move towards a life that is more sacrificial…even with the little I have. In Jesus’ name! AMEN
