Just before 11pm SA Country Fire Service firefighters were called to a structure fire at Penola in the states south east. On arrival at the property crews found the verandah at the rear of the home ablaze. More than 20 firefighters from 5 appliances, including some wearing breathing apparatus, managed to quickly contain the fire to the back verandah area stopping the fire from spreading into the rest of the stone home. Two occupants were home at the time the fire started and managed to escape uninjured. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined with SA Police and SA Metropolitan Fire Service Fire Cause Investigators travelling to Penola in the morning to investigate. The early dollar damage estimate has been set at $30,000. SAAS and SAPOL were also on scene
