SA women to take on rivals Namibia in international friendly The South African womens national team will take on COSAFA rivals Namibia in an international friendly match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek on Saturday. The side was scheduled to go on a West Africa tour, but had to alter their programme. The plan was to go on a West Africa tour and play stronger opponents, said Banyana Banyana coach Vera Pauw. Its unfortunate that we wont be going as we could not get confirmation from the teams and we couldnt wait longer as we have to prepare our team. I would like to thank SAFA for all their hard work in ensuring that we continue with our planned program by securing the match against Namibia. Banyana Banyana will depart for Namibia on Wednesday and is vital as the prepare for the African Womens Championship (AWC) in that country later this year. This match will help us build on the good job that the girls have been doing, and also give us time to work on some aspects that need attention. We need to play as many games as we can before the tournament, concluded Pauw. The AWC, taking place from 11 – 25 October, will also be used as qualifiers for the 2015 FIFA Womens World Cup in Canada. The top three teams from this competition will automatically qualify for the World Cup. information courtesy of the cosafa website.
