SABBATICAL NOTES. 28 FEB 2014. N6. TOUCHED. AND TOUCHED FOREVER. THE WARAY WRITER, Ms Janis Claire Salvacion, wrote in a comment on my post about our meeting. She said: Manong, would you like to know the real reason we were so eager to see you? We wanted to be blessed by your grace. In a time when there was so much poverty in our lives and our souls, there was something about your warmth and generosity that made us seek you out. How lucky the Ilokano writers! More than thankful for yesterdays time and attention, Manong. Hope to see you again someday, when we have healed, when the Dapdap trees again blossom along the coastlines of Leyte. Ms Janis: May I respond? You and Michael Carlo Villas blessed me as well, and I will forever thank you both for meeting with me, and for laughing, and for listening to my version of truth about our educational system, about the callousness of our very own University of the Philippines, about the irredeemable literary incest plaguing our National Writing and National Literature at this time, and the state of public governance in Tacloban, in Eastern Visayas, and in the entire country. You listened to my blah-blah of the causes I am part of, of the clandestine way of our struggle to offer an alternative to the usual, run-of-the-mill, and massified way of looking at things, and I would like to thank you for being the gracious and graceful audience. From here, we will go a long way to fight for what is right, to write our own truth, to express our own vision. I admire the way you have gone through the Haiyan/Yolanda/Tacloban/Eastern Visayas trauma. I would not have the same courage, boldness, and daring the way you have shown. Let the healing come, and come in full, and write, write, write again. MRKA/ 28 Feb 2014
