SADA – Moving Forward Collectively The South African Disability Alliance (SADA) has just concluded their strategic plan to ensure coercive and collective representation of people with disabilities in all the sectors. With the withdrawal of DPSA from the Alliance, the opportunity has been taken to embrace trust and purpose for the service providers in the disability sector. The Alliance has no political affiliations and this advantage allows the Alliance the autonomy to speak boldly and serve widely. The Alliance invites national disability agencies who are represented in the provinces to join to ensure growth an broad representation of people with disabilities. The SADA is pleased to be the beneficiary of Casual Day campaign which will add to the sustainability of the organisation and SADA’s inclusion in Casual Day is a demonstration of the great representation of disability in this event. The SADA serves as a platform for discussion, joint planning, collaboration and consensus-seeking amongst key role players within the disability sector. To promote collaboration between role players in the disability sector and between the disability sector and other role players in society, including relevant organs of state, in joint initiatives, campaigns, programs and projects. Some of the objectives are to provide a platform for consensus-seeking and reaching common positions on issues relating to key policy issues relating to disability, develop approaches to public communication on disability issues concepts, key messages and the shaping of public perceptions of disability and of disabled people; to appropriate services and methods of service delivery to disabled people based on norms and standards acceptable to disabled people; the development of common positions on disability issues. Where possible speaking with one voice as the disability sector on key national disability issues without restricting a different view; the development of joint strategies and inclusive positions on cross-cutting issues that affect disabled people; promoting the involvement of disabled people in national issues; and the provision of leadership for disabled people in South Africa in disability issues, public education and awareness raising, supporting, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of policy, legislation and other legal instruments on disability nationally and internationally.
