SADC and AU, the Old Boys clubs for dictators backed by their their military powers to oppress the blindly patriotic African. Ethiopian dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam who fled to the country in 1991 after being found guilty of genocide, which began with the toppling of Emperor Haile Selassie in 1974 and included war, purges and famine, lives a free life in Harare, Zimbabwe, along with one of the Worlds most wanted war criminals, Protais Mpiranya, a former head of Rwandas Presidential Guard during the 1994 genocide, courtesy of Robert Mugabe, Africas longest serving and oldest dictator, a man responsible for the gukurahundi genocide. The UNs Rwandan war crimes tribunal has offered a $5m reward for tracing Protais Mpiranya, who was a commander in the Presidential Guard in 1994 and a key figure in the slaughter of 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus. Mengistuss army helped train Zimbabwes liberation fighters hence the protection by Mugabe. Mengistu, who now lives in Zimbabwe, was accused with top members of his military government of genocide, killing thousands during a 17-year rule which began with the toppling of Emperor Haile Selassie in 1974 and included war, purges and famine during a bloody rule. After Mugabes 34 years rule which has seen Zimbabwes army active in the Mozambican war, Angolan war, DRC war, Ethiopian Wars and Gukurahundi genocide, you realise that Mugabe has never demobilised from war mode hence his bullying tactics at home and arrogant macho man, international image that has brought Zimbabwe down to its knees in the global village. When you reflect upon Mengistus and Mpiranyas protected and prestigious presence in Zimbabwe, you understand why the lives of ordinary people are not valued by these dictators and their powerful militaries which prop up the destitutes. Recently, the African Union summit, in Addis Ababa elected Robert Mugabe as First Vice-Chair of the African Union Bureau, a supreme organ of the African Union which is tasked with stirring the agenda of the organization with the assistance of the African Union Commission. A red carpet welcome and prestigious posting, all awarded in a nation which suffered at the hands of Mengistu, the dictator whom Robert Mugabe has protected in Harare since the mid 90s, and a man wanted back in Ethiopia, to face justice for his crimes against humanity. In his AU post, Mugabe represents Southern Africa, which also appointed him as SADC deputy chair very close to the controversial Zanu PF, Nikuv election victory, in the second half of 2013. This is the same SADC body that failed to offer any help in resolving the Zimbabwe, election crisis and the same SADC body from which Botswana recently withdrew from due to obvious failures. All these are key pointers to the fact that our leaders are not in touch with the people and the liberation mentality. Its all a cover for an old boys club who protect each other from being held accountable for crimes against their people. They may escape justice, this side of life but they cannot Nikuv their time on earth. This generation of oppressive despots, still working beyond pensionable age is dying out and hopefully as they roll off the political arena on gun carriages to their final resting places, we will see freedom, justice, democracy, equal opportunities and peace rolled out across Africa, the motherland! The world has moved on and its fair to say that, take away the dictators and their guns, drop the self enrichment despot culture of legalised crime and corruption rolled out as African solutions to African problems, and embrace the mordern, tried and tested progressive ideas of the global village, and open ourselves to trade and development as equals.
