SADESMO: EDUCATION BURSARY FUNDS NOT SERVING ITS INTENDED PURPOSE 02 December 2014. The IFP Student Movement, SADESMO today expressed great concern that students who received bursaries from the Department of Education to study as teachers are not being employed by the Department. The Department of Education has awarded bursaries from the Fundza Lushaka Fund to students with the intention of addressing the shortage of teachers but now that they have qualified, the Department is not employing them. These young people studied hard and qualified as teachers with the understanding that they will be employed by the Department but now they find themselves unemployed. They feel deceived as they were hopeful of being employed and wanted to serve as teachers, said the South African Democratic Students Movement, National Secretary General We as the students movement demand that Fundza Lushaka bursary students be hired immediately so that there will be no classroom without a teacher. We cannot have qualified teachers remaining idle when there is a shortage of teachers to educate our children. This is an obvious case of wastage of state resources and poor planning by the Department as it pays lip service to improve the quality of education. As students ourselves we are aware of the high unemployment rate in our country and the unacceptably high number of classrooms without teachers. We know the frustrations of being qualified but yet unemployed when we are willing to work, continued SG As SADESMO we see this as bad management by the Department of Education and therefore we demand that all those teachers should be employed immediately. We dont want to see these young people remaining hopeless going into the new year, concluded
