SAFETY GUIDELINE REMINDER Dear Residents: Student - TopicsExpress

SAFETY GUIDELINE REMINDER Dear Residents: Student communities, both on or near college campuses, are often the target for property crime during semester breaks. Please adhere to the following guidelines before leaving the property: 1. Keep your heat set at least 65 degrees. Cold temperatures may cause pipes to freeze and burst. 2. Don’t broadcast on social networking sites (Facebook and Twitter) that you will not be home. Regardless of the precautions you may take, this is public information that a criminal could use. Also, be aware an acquaintance may post your travel plans on their site. Do not share your travel plans with anyone you don’t trust. 3. Lock doors and windows and pull blinds/curtains closed. 4. Take valuable items with you if possible. If not, conceal them. 5. Make your apartment look lived in. Use programmable switch timers on lights/radios. Leave the light on in your bathroom with the door partially open to allow filtered light into your bedroom. 6. Don’t leave a key ‘hidden’ outside your apartment. If you are staying here through the semester break please be a good neighbor and notify the police immediately by dialing 911 if you see any suspicious activity. Please refer to Exhibit B from your lease, which outlines Safety Guidelines that you should always follow. Please review these guidelines and abide by them at all times to help ensure your safety and the safety of your fellow residents. Thank you, University Place (434) 295-5531
