SAINT BONIFACE, 675-754AD. For those who do not know. St. Boniface is depicted as chopping down the sacred oak of Thor. But he did not leave the people without a tree to remind them of the True God. He preached on the great fir trees. Those which are perpetually green, to remind us of the constant presence of the Incarnate Christ. That shape of the tree reminds us of the heights to which Christ ascended in the Ascension as well as his movement to Earth when he became man. We surround it with gifts to teach us that God is the source of all gifts and all life in Christ. Thank St. Boniface today for the Christmas Tree! and begin to prepare yourself for Christmas! Boniface had a deep love for the authority of the Roman Pontiff, and, though a bishop, he considered it his honour and duty to write the Pope to give updates and to ask if there were any particular tasks which he was expected to do. As the culture in Manitoba quickly devolves into secularism and anti-catholicism, we should ask St. Boniface, who lost his life in his attempt to bring the Love of Christ to the Dutch, to help us to evangelize everywhere, even to the point of risking our lives.
