SAITH NANUK: “SERVE THE GURU, O MIND, GOD BLESS US WITH HIS NAME.” ______________________________________________________ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਮਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸੰਗੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥ This passage makes it quite clear. Regarding the Sabad, would you say that Nanak Ji, Mahla Pehla, claims to be a Guru, Satguru? He clearly calls someone else Guru / Satguru. The word Guru means great. Here it stands for God, In a secondary sense it is applied to a great Sant Guru, religious divine and holy teacher. Please read the full verse with translation at the end of this post. Contd------- Truth means what is and will never be destroyed, what is eternal. People are doing just this. The discriminatory, Prejudice eye is blind. It will be evident from a close reading of these passages that truth is nobody’s monopoly. It should not become the monopoly of scholars; it should not give the scholar a great ego. Now is the chance for those who are mentally blind must think their blindness that they now can see the pure truth. Sri Nanak Ji, Mahla Pehla Ji, explains: I Go, and ask the True Guru, and associate with the Lord’s humble servants. Contd------- FOR NANUK GURU AS GOD: Gods secret is not found in the Veds or the books of the Musalmans. God is the only true friend and relation. Om! The true name is the creator, the divine male without fear, without enmity, of a timeless shape, not produced from the womb. By the favour of the Guru! I Nanuk say. The truth is, Confusion among the advocates: They all deny the following fact. Hymn of the first Woman or Slave; Sri Nanuk Ji Mahla Pehla explains and CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE SHOWS AND CONFIRMS THE FOLLOWING: Practicing restraint by Hatha Yoga, the body wears away. The mind is not softened by fasting or austerities. Nothing else is equal to worship of the Lord’s Name. Serve the Guru, O mind, and associate with the humble servants of the Lord. The tyrannical Messenger of Death cannot touch you, and the serpent of Maya cannot sting you, when you drink in the sublime essence of the Lord. And again: The world reads the arguments, and is softened only by music. In the three modes and corruption, they are born and die. Without the Lord’s Name, they endure suffering and pain. he Yogi draws the breath upwards, and opens the Tenth Gate. He practices inner cleansing and the six rituals of purification. But without the Lord’s Name, the breath he draws is useless. The fire of the five passions burns within him; how can he be calm? The thief is within him; how can he taste the taste? One who becomes Gurmukh conquers the body-fortress. Furthermore have described: With filth within, he wanders around at places of pilgrimage. His mind is not pure, so what is the use of performing ritual cleansings? He carries the karma of his own past actions; who else can he blame? He does not eat food; he tortures his body. Without the Guru’s wisdom, he is not satisfied. The self-willed manmukh is born only to die, and be born again. -------Silence the mouse scurrying around within you. Serve the Primal Lord, by chanting the Lord’s Name. O Nanak, God blesses us with His Name, when He grants His Grace.” The readers are requested to remember and focus on the interchangeable words. INTERLINKED, GURU SATGURU AND HAR: Nanuk Ji, Mahla Pehla Ji, explains again and again re-emphasized, and centre his focused on Supreme absolute Truth. Truth which only carried forward by disciple from Satguru. In the following Sabad like the previous ones, he praises his Guru Satguru. A careful study of this passage yields the following results: GURU SATGURU DYAL SACH, ETC. Addressing very important, crucial and key issue to bear in mind is that It is fact that Bearing in mind the MANGALA CHARAN the song of greetings, GURUISM, GURU AS GOD: Gods secret is not found in the Veds or the books of the Musalmans. God is the only true friend and relation:- How long are they going to ignore. Will they ever recognize and acknowledge the following truth? The truth is, Confusion among the advocates: They all deny the following fact. Hymn of the first Woman or Slave; Sri Nanuk Ji Mahla Pehla explains: It was the guru who gave a mantra, a verse or word or phrase, that the seeker would repeat as a kind of self-hypnosis; and it was the guru who taught the ‘secrets’ of the tradition. People are very hostile towards the verdict of Nanuk Ji, Mahla Pehla. There are 345 lines, passages in his textual record praising his Satguru. Both speak opposite each other. Greater re-emphasis and focuses must be centred on the word GURU BHAGATI, AND HAR in the following Sabad. The fact of the matter is Truth. ”What is truth?” Truth needs no believers. Let me remind you: truth needs no believers. The sun rises in the morning -- you dont believe in it, do you? Do you believe in the moon? Do you believe in Air? People believe in lies; truth needs no believers. And when you invent lies you become a great leader in every field, i. e Religion, politics etc. These lies give credibility To die for truth is far more valuable than to live in lies. Lies are very comfortable, very secure, cozy, and you can create lies according to yourself, according to your needs. Truth is never according to you; you have to be According to the truth, and that is difficult. But the fact remains that the things which are seen are temporal, the things which are not seen are eternal; and we, too, are eternal. Over against sight lies faith, and the realm of faith is there fore the unseen the invisible and the future. Now faith is the giving substance to things hoped for, the test of things not seen. Further, it is true that those who are most liable to suffer from this evil are often the more blind to it, because, while They are carefully watchful against other sins, they do not reckon the danger which besets them from that sin which gradually creeps over the soul until it loses touch with God. Students of the Religion have often failed to give it the attention it well may claim. The value, therefore, of religion to the individual, both in the past and present, as a source of personal satisfaction and of elevated feelings, is is not to be disputed. Much more might be added on this topic; but enough has been said to convince any one, Do you disagree with the very words you’re reading right now, or, for that matter, with nearly everything in this post, note? Fine! Then it has done its job. For the purpose of this dialogue it is not to convince you of anything, but to return you to yourself, to reunite you with you’re innermost truth. No matter how sure we may be about the correctness of our beliefs, they are only ever our interpretation of reality. The truth, the world around us, reality is often just a level of truth – a slice of understanding in the magical never-ending layer-cake of reality. Seek the truth in yourself and the truth will set you free. Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Read it with earnest prayer. It can do you no good, without Gods blessing: nothing short of Divine grace can render it the means of instructing your mind, or impressing your heart. Now is the chance for those who are mentally blind must think their blindness that they now can see the brilliant pure truth. Make your deals, dealers, and take care of your merchandise. Again and again, we hear and tell stories; we read and write and understand loads of knowledge. I select the following Sabad, Verse, as this provide particulars enough to enable the reader to form his own mind-picture of the environs of the famous Sants. Sri Nanak Ji, Mahla Pehla never misses and at every available opportunity to adore, admires and praises his beloved Satguru. As you have seen Nanuk in his own words. Nanuk Ji, never claimed to originate fresh doctrines; he merely recalled the people to truths which had been formerly Known and practised. In his own words, he was “DHADI.” Some historian explained, “Nanuk was an imitator, not an original thinker.” It is misleading to call Sri Nanuk Ji, Known as Mahla Pehla the founder of learner, disciple (Sikh) Religion, as he did not originate a new school of thought or set of teachings. His numerical succession of mahlas follows the order in which Nanuk, Angad, Amardas, Ramdas and Arjan Dev. All the sign, their songs with the same name, Nanak. They have been distinguished in the Guru Graath by giving each of them a number, going from 1 (Nanuk) to 5. These numbers re noted as mahla 1, mahla 2 and so forth Thus a song ascribed to mah/a lis by Nanak. One ascribed to mahla 2, by Angad and so on. Not Guru, but only Mahla Pehla, Duja, Teeja, Chautha, and Mahla Panjva, Recorded. The compositions of Nanuk are styled Mahla one, that is, the first ward; the compositions of Angad, Mahla the second ward, and so on. Each taken as models of life and devotion, each of them being virtually identified with Nanuk, Nanuk himself identify as Hymn of the first Woman or Slave. Literally interpreted, the Sanskrit terms Guru (derived from the Sanskrit root gri, to utter words), and Sishya—corrupted into disciples’ (Sikh)—meaning in Sanskrit one who is to be instructed, are merely correlatives like teacher and taught. The point on which they pride themselves is the prohibition of image-worship. Yet they make an idol of their own sacred book, worshipping it as truly as the Hindus do their idols, dressing it, decorating it, fanning it, putting it to bed at night, and treating it much in the same manner as the idols of Krishna are treated.” BREACH OF TRUST; THEY DISCRIMINATE, THEY HIDE FACT & TRUTH ___________________________________________________________ It will be well here to consider the manner in which Religion and the teaching of Religion were generally viewed during the past centuries. Each person what is right in his own eyes, and whatever he / she was able to do with impunity appeared to him right. The disciples do not avowedly abandon the Hindu Codes of Law, which they had, from time immemorial, obeyed; but they felt contempt for Hinduism, with its restrictions and prejudices, and refused to follow its precepts whenever these were opposed to their immediate interests. Still, it cannot be said that students of Religion have always and to the fullest extent made it clear to themselves what is the real essence of a Religion. Too often expressions are used which are nothing but metaphors In many cases perfectly harmless metaphors, but in other cases metaphors that obscure the real facts of the matter. The vocabulary, too, was treated from the same point of view. With huge smile they deliver poisonous speeches, kathas, etc. They should stop delivering the daily diet of hatred; their breach of trust is open now. “DISHONESTY” It is known fact, they are annihilationist of truth. It is they who spread hatred, it is they who spread prejudice, they are all part of the same conspiracy, they obliterated separated and annihilated his Satguru from history books, they turn Blind eye what the Sabad says, they are not neutral. Which is in violation of the duties of trustee, such a breach need not be intentional with malice. Here we have ample evidence conveyed to us such knowledge that we were able to present and supports the real truth to higher and higher cultural levels and levels of individual self-awareness. You know what I am going to say. I am going to say that every book which high light into the back ground of religious history, you will find the similar following statements made by ignorant followers, this include religious institutions, magazines as well as news papers, writers and Raggies Dhadis etc. Except Nanak Ji, Mahla Pehla, People says the right opposite: With the increasing awareness of the importance of precise diagnosis of abnormal religious brain disease and increasing in deceitful skills various psycho analysis show very disturbing results. For example civil wars are justified by extremists regardless which ever Religion they belongs to. This results in Murder Rape kidnapping and blood shed around the Globe. Religious plague is worst incurable disease then all other disease put together thin include aids and throughout record history show third of the worlds killing known as Religious bubonic plague. The Religious behaviour of people at large persistently disobedience and denounce there own faith and beliefs. Too many of them Religious or not this type of activity seems little short of outright lunacy. And it’s certainly the case that Religion and mental ill- health have long been linked. The disturbed individual who believe himself to be cut above the rest or to receive message from the masters is something cliché in our society. Born because of the karma of their past mistakes, they make more mistakes, and fall into mistakes. By washing, their pollution is not removed, even though they may wash hundreds of times. O Nanak, if God forgives, they are forgiven; otherwise, they are kicked and beaten. O Nanak, it is absurd to ask to be spared from pain by begging for comfort. Where you are bound to lose by speaking, there, you ought to remain silent. Page 149 Guru Granth Ji, Jithay bolan harye tithay changi chup. The relative truth must meanwhile be my beacon my shield. Only the matter of religion that can be comprehended as much as by children as older people will not be included or entertained unsolicited intruders into highly sensitive area of religion. Research through experience of supreme truth must be everybody’s purpose and those who explored truth said suchness the truth beyond words. There is some race and cults out there it is this very teaching of superiority that has caused so much pain in your world. The idea, deeply ingrained I a people, that they are some how Better than others may give them an extra measure of confidence, but it also too often translate How can anything we do wrong into How can anything we do be wrong? The word better is one of the most dangerous words in your vocabulary, exceeded only by the word right. Both are connected, for it is because you think you are better that you thinking you are right. Well, it doesn’t works that way you address no religious issues or political instead you repeat yourself. According to your religion you dont say you want a world that can live in peace and harmony and joy and you dont know this joy is a freedom. So tell me that you want to live in a world without conflict, without violence, without bloodshed, without hatered, but Guru Granth’s way have a such world a way to create it virtually overnight is to preach and live and let others live The significance and thrust of these hymns have often been missed. May I remind the reader that the purpose of exploring these Sabads are to focus sharply into the issues we are concerned with. Majority Followers of Guru Granth Ji, often disagree with its Verdict. People often say, write and argue that there were no Sant tradition in India, during the 12th 13th 14th century. For Nanuk the Guru, Satguru is his only True friend. Repeat the name of the infinite God who surpasses all conception. The greatness of the Name! There is no religious work superior to it. True devotion and repetition of the Name secure salvation:- THE DEATH CANNOT DECEIVE THEM: From “JAP” _____________________________________ Nanuk Ji Mahla Pehla explains: “Nanuk, the saints are ever happy. By hearing the Name sorrow and sin are no more. Their beauty cannot be described They die not, neither are they led astray In whose hearts God dwelleth. There dwell congregations of saints They rejoice; the True One is in their hearts. God dwelleth in the true realm.” Page 721 Guru Granth Ji, Nanuk JI, Mahla Pehla explains: “O God, fear of Thee is my bhang, my heart its pouch I am an intoxicated hermit. My bands are the cup; it is for a sight of Thee, O God, Ihunger, And ever beg at Thy door- For a sight of Thee I crave. I beg at Thy door; grant me Thine alms. Saffron, flowers, musk, gold, and sandal are all applied to the body; So the bright perfume of the saints rendereth all souls fragrant. No one calleth clarified butter or silk impure; Such is a saint in regard to caste. May Nanak obtain alms at the doors Of those who are imbued with Thy name and continue to love Thee!” Further explained by Nanuk Ji, Mahla Pehla: “The Sidhs holding an assembly sat in religious attitude--hail to the assembly of the saints! I offer my prayer to Him who is the true and Infinite One. I will cut off my head and lay it before Him; I will place before Him my soul and body. Nanak, by meeting a holy man the True One is found, and honour is easily obtained. Is the True and Pure One obtained by wandering? There is no salvation without the True Word. And again on page 877 Guru Granth Ji, Mahla Pehla explains: “The Word is my meditation, divine instruction the music of my horn for men to hear; Honour is my begging-wallet, and uttering the Name my alms. Father, Gorakh awaketh. Gorakh is He who lifted the earth and fashioned it without delay; Who enclosed water, breath, and life in the body, and madethe great lights of the moon and sun; Who gave us the earth as our abode, but whose many favours we have forgotten. Sidhs, Strivers, Jogis, Jangams, and Pirs are many. If I obtain the Name from them, I will sing their praises, and serve them heartily-- Paper and salt melt not in clarified butter; the lotus remaineth unaffected by water---- What can Death say to them, O Nanak, who meet such saints?” The following hymn no where to be found in Guru Granth. Max Arthur MacAuliffe (1842-1913) wrote: An account of the saints mentioned in this hymn, with their compositions contained in the Guru Granth Ji.” “No one can kill him, O Kind One, whom Thou preservest. How can Thy praises be numbered? Thou savest countless beings. Preserve me, O Beloved, preserve me! I am Thy slave. My true Lord pervadeth sea and land, the nether and the upperregions. Thou didst preserve Jaidev and Nama, Thy beloved saints-- Thou didst save those on whom Thou didst bestow Thy name- Thou didst preserve Sain, Kavir, and Trilochan who loved Thy name. Thou didst preserve Ravdas, the tanner, who is numbered an among Thy saints. Nanak, who is without honour or family, uttereth supplication. Extricate him, O Lord, from the ocean of the world, and make him Thine own. “ THE WORLDS LEADING & FAMOUS SCHOLAR WRITE: ________________________________________ The Sikh and Sikhism By Dr W.H. Mcleod.1999. The Divine Saints Sat guru’s constructed the pristine religion during the construction of Islam, as we studied in depth of Guru Granth more we find and unlock the mystery surrounding who is the originator of Sikhism? The pattern evolved by Nanak is reworking of the SANT, Saints synthesis, one in which does not depart far from Sant, Saints source as far as its fundamental components are concerned. The categories employed by Nanak dev ji are the categories of the SANT, Saints the terminology he use is their terminology, and the doctrine he affirms are their doctrines.. What earlier SANT, Saints had developed he inherited the components of his thoughts from the SANT, Saints. But he did not transmit his inheritance unchanged. He received a synthesis and he passed it on. It is the SANT, Saints thought which we find in his work, but it is SANT, Saints thought expanded and inherited, reinterpreted which within the patter n of SANT, Saints belief but which nevertheless posses a significant originality and in contrast with its SANT, Saints background a unique clarity. It possesses, more over, the quality of survival, for it remains today the substance of a living faith. The linage, which commences with the humble Sant Saints the convention derived from the traditional Sant emphasis on the value of associating with the truly devout, an experience which enabled the humble participant to acquire apportion of the merit which emanated from the true holy (Sadh, Satguru) Sikh and Sikhism By Dr W.H. Mcleod1999. The lineage, which commences with the humble Sant Saints the convention derived from the traditional Sant emphasis on the value of associating with the truly devout, an experience which enabled the humble participant to acquire apportion of the merit which emanated from the true holy (Sadh, Satguru) The Sikhism By Dr W.H. Mcleod.1999. However scholars would level this by now as a plagiarism. In the spiritual lineage of kinship there fore Nanuk ji cannot be separated from the teaching of the SANT, Saints. Satguru Ruvdas: makes the characteristic Sants, Saint’s emphases, with an evident stress upon the irrelevancy of caste in all that concerns a man’s salvation. Even stronger emphasis and one which is peculiarly attractive figure Its only the Saints (Sants) who uniquely developed the interior path spirituality is mapped out in great details. There is no caste among saints and sages. A sage is like a lion out of the cage, free from shackles of caste, creed, profession, tradition and scripture. Do not look to the caste of saints and sages. You will not be benefited. You cannot imbibe their virtues. In higher religion, there is neither caste nor creed. Cobblers, weavers, and untouchables had become the best saints. Their sayings never clash. The messages of the saints are essentially the same. They have always been a call to men to discover the Wisdom of the Self or Atma A Saint (Sat guru) is a God on earth. To him, the whole world is mere straw. To him, gold and stone are alike. To him, pleasure and pain are the same. A saint lives in God. He has realized God. He knows God. He has become God. He speaks of God. He shows the way to God. He is God-intoxicated. He is God Himself. He is one with God. Saints are Gods agents on earth. God reveals Himself in a saint in His full glory; infinite power, wisdom and bliss. The saints constitute a ladder for the pilgrims to the shrine of God. Wherever saints and sages stay even for a half-second, then and there are sacred places like Varanasi (Kaashi), utter Pardesh and Pandherpur and Narsi Namdev from Maharashatra. Man certainly no exception to it. In the holy association of Saints he slowly and gradually imbeds Saintly qualities and strives for God realization. Without the Satsang, company of the Holy reverend Saints there can be no upsurge of spiritual disposition, and without it no love and devotion for God can arise, impurity will remain. If the impurity remains soul will not be free from recycle of birth. Seek the company of sants and evolve. In the state of Nirvana, sing the Kirtan of the Creator’s Praises; contemplating Him in meditation, even for an instant, one is saved. O Saints, cross over the world-ocean. One who practices the Teachings of the Saints, by Guru’s Grace, is carried across. Millions of cleansing baths at sacred shrines of pilgrimage only fill the mortal with filth in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. One, who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, becomes spotlessly pure. DEATH TRIUMPHS OVER ALL EXCEPT GOD’S SINCERE WORSHIPPERS. ___________________________________________________________ Submissive Nanuk Ji, to higher authority. Holy men are not led off in triumph by Death; they become insensibly blended with God. ”The glory of the Holy people is not known to the Vedas. They can describe only what they have heard. The God-conscious being cannot be described in words. The God-conscious being is the Lord and Master of all. Kavir, Death will not disgrace mine understanding since I have repeated the name of the Cherisher who created him. They are the only divine and holy: “All bows in reverence to Him. No one asks about their ancestry and social status; instead, they yearn for the dust of their feet. O Lord Master, such is Your Name. In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak has obtained understanding; singing the Kirtan of the Lords Praises is his only support. Namdev, Trilochan, Kavir and Ruvdas Chamar have been liberated attained Salvation and became Immortal.” On behalf of Mahla Phelam Mahla Panjva Ji, explains:Night and day, and the stars in the sky shall vanish. The sun and the moon shall vanish. The mountains, the earth, the water and the air shall pass away. Only the Word of the Holy Saint shall endure. Those born of eggs shall pass away, and those born of the womb shall pass away. Those born of the earth and sweat shall pass away as well. The four Vedas shall pass away, and the six Shaastras shall pass away. Only the Word of the Holy Saint is eternal. Raajas, the quality of energetic activity shall pass away. Taamas, the quality of lethargic darkness shall pass away. Saatvas, the quality of peaceful light shall pass away as well. All that is seen shall pass away. Only the Word of the Holy Saint is beyond destruction. He Himself is Himself by Himself. All that is seen is His play. He cannot be found by any means. O Nanak, meeting with the Guru, God is found. Page 1204 Guru Granth Ji. All pains, diseases and fears are erased, for one who comes to the Sanctuary of the Lords Saints. He Himself chants, and inspires others to chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. He is Utterly All-Powerful; He carries us across to the other side. His Mantra drives out cynicism, and totally fills the empty one. Those who obey the Order of the Lords slaves, do not enter into the womb of reincarnation ever again. I Works for theBhagats and sings His Praises - his pains of birth and death are taken away. Those unto whom my Beloved becomes Merciful, endure the Unendurable Ecstasy of the Lord, Har, Har. I touch my forehead to the Feet of the Saints. The Saints have placed their hands on my forehead. My mind is filled with the Mantra of the Holy Saints, and I have risen above the three qualities. Gazing upon the Blessed Vision, the Darshan of God Bhagat, my eyes are filled with love. Greed and attachment are gone, along with doubt On behalf of Sri Nanuk known as Mahla Pehla, Mahla Panjva First raise the question I quote, “Is there any Saint who can lead me to God? then came the answer, “All pains, diseases and fears are erased, for one who comes to the Sanctuary of the Lord’s Saints. He Himself chants, and inspires others to chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. He is utterly All-Powerful; He carries us across to the other side. I touch my forehead to the Feet of the Saints. The Saints have placed their hands on my forehead. My mind is filled with the Mantra of the Holy Saints, and I have risen above the three qualities. Gazing upon the Blessed Vision, the Darshan of Bhagats, my eyes are filled with love. Greed and attachment are gone, along with doubt. Is there any Saint who can lead me to God? One who helps me to behold the Blessed Vision of my Beloved, for even an instant - I am a sacrifice to that Saint. I offer all my prayers and entreaties to him; I serve him, day and night. I have renounced all pride and egotism; he tells me the stories of my Beloved. I am wonder-struck, gazing upon the wondrous play of God.” Furthermore “Saints themselves chants and inspires others to chant the Naam the Name of the Lord. My mind is filled with the Mantra of the Holy Saints, and I have risen above the three qualities Gazing upon the Blessed Vision, the Darshan of Bhagat, Satguru, my eyes are filled with love. I am a sacrifice to that occasion. Twenty-four hours a day, those meditate in remembrance on their God; by great good fortune, they have found the Lord. Kavir is merciful the slave of the Lord’s slaves; the humble barber Sain is supreme. Highest of the high is Namdev, who looked upon all alike; Ruvdas embodiment, Manifestation of God. My soul, body and wealth belong to the Saints; my mind longs for the dust of the Saints. And by the radiant Grace of the Saints, all my doubts have been erased. Said Nanak, I have met the Lord.” The Being of Immortal Manifestation is found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
