SAKPRA, UDU TRADITIONAL COUNCIL SETTLES RIFT .........AS OTOTA OF UDU KINGDOM URGES SAKPRA TO GO AHEAD WITH POLITICAL CAREER. .........THIS IS MY BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT, SAYS UDU PG.... By Gamaliel Okaruadjeren The face- off between the Udu traditional Council led by the Ovie of Udu kingdom , HRM Owhorhu 1 and the immediate past Udu Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Dr. Henry Afure Sakpra has been resolved with the Ovie of Udu describing the two year old rift as a quarrel between the father and the son. The reconciliation meeting took place on Tuesday Septermber 11. 2012 at the palace of the Monarch in Aladja town, with members of the Udu traditional council and Hon. Sakpras leaders, friends, political associates and well wishers in attendance. The Ovie, said that it was a matter between the father and the son, and that he knows one day the son would realize his mistakes and come for forgiveness. Im looking forward for this day to come and it has come, so as a father I need not to keep grudges against any children rather to forgive. From the bottom of my heart I have forgive you (SAKPRA). Todays marks a new beginning in the life of Udu Kingdom, he said But the monarch quickly added that henceforth political office holders should shun arrogance, disrespect and be a good representative of the people and show more respect for elders and traditional authority in the land especially the monarch. No Local Government Council Chairman has the constitutional right to dissolve any constituted traditional councils like ours. He held that as a lawyer, I know that the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria empowers us (traditional rulers) to over see activities of government in our various domains. It is our constitutional right to know how council funds are applied in the best interest of our people. But yet most of us are not even doing all that functions, he quickly said, that henceforth, the local government council will be administered by men and women who will demonstrate well deserving respect for the throne of the Udu and its people. That Udu Kingdom would promote or project unquestionable characters for the positions of chairmen and councilors so that those who have vision for Udu could be in power to help in bringing fast development to the people of Udu which reason local government are being created, while enjoining all the political class in Udu to work in harmony and peace in order to ensure even development to the area. The initiator of the reconciliation meeting Archbishop God-Do-Well Avwomakpa, while praying for the Udu people at the ceremony, said the after effects of rising up against a monarch is too disastrous for one to bear and so he advised all that present to always respect their monarch, according to the Archbishop the monarch is the Oldest person in a Kingdom and so he deserved respect from every one in respective of their status. Stressing further, the man of God said, rebelling against a King is like rebelling against God, added. The Archbishop revealed that a lot of good things are in the offing that would provoke accelerated growth and improved infrastructures in the area while urging the Udu people to remain united. In his remarks, Chief G. N. O. Sefia who led the reconciliation team on behalf of Hon. Dr. Sakpra express gratitude at the resolution of the meeting in which both parties have promised to work together in peace and harmony. He especially thanked Ovie of Udu Kingdom for being magnanimity to accept Sakpras pleas and welcome him to his palace as his son, urging all Udu Sons and Daughters to maintain the existing peace and be committed to things capable of attracting even development to Udu. The President General, Union of Udu Communities, Chief Steve Sokoh JP, stated that while the crisis lasted he was deeply worried over the misunderstanding and thanked God that it has been finally resolved. He declared that this is one of his biggest achievements since assumption of office as the president general of Udu Kingdom. On his part the elated Hon. Dr. Henry Afure Sakpra described the reconciliation as memorable and re-United of the father and the son which by way of communication gap brought about their misunderstanding but today marks a new beginning in my life. He thanked all those who have contributed in one way or the other to ensure this day come to fruition. He especially thanked Archbishop God-Do-Well Avwomakpa, Chief G. N. O. Sefia, Chief Steve Sokoh, Chief Okuku and all his well wishers. He however pledged his unflinching loyalty to the Ovie and his council of Chiefs, especially Chief Justice T. k. Dugbo. Responding to a question the elated Dr. Sakpra said, if voted into office again that the building of permanent Udu Kingdom palace will top his priority projects come rain come sun, he revealed. The Otota of Udu Kingdom, Chief Sam Odibo JP, said the reconciliation of Sakpra and the Udu traditional council was a big achievement and a sign of good things to come which was necessary towards paving the road for unity in Udu Kingdom. He also upheld that Sakpras name has be re-written in book of life as its were and he can now go about his political career. Present at the meeting includes: Chief Justice T. K. Dugbo, Chief Okuku, Chief Isaac Lafua, Chief Mrs. E. G. A. Odjugo, Chief G. Notoma, Chief S. N. Brigue, Chief Robert Balance, Chief Mrs. E. Okene, Chief Matthew Uparan and Mr. Andrew Oyevwiraye. Others are; Comr. Sunday Subi, Mr. Johnbull Asun, Mr. Tony Sakpra, Comr. Friday Kotogbo (ex-pol), Mr. Christopher Kotogbo, Mr. William Saiki, Mrs. Sakpra and lot of others. Four top America clergymen led by Bishop Ron came with Archbishop God-Do-Well Avwomakpa to the meeting who were in the country on a missionary journey. Source: Urhobo Times
