SAM GEORGE RESIGNS OVER “ELEVATION” COMMENTS The Ghanaian Palaver can confirm that the Presidential Staffer and key communicator at the Presidency, Mr. Samuel George Nartey, has resigned from his post following certain comments he made about the physical ability of the General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party over the weekend. In a four-paragraph resignation letter dated 23 December 2014, addressed to the President and copied to the Chief of Staff, Sam George, as he is popularly known, thanked the President for believing in him and giving him the opportunity to serve in his government. A copy of Sam George’s resignation letter, which the Ghanaian Palaver has intercepted, comes after he was heavily criticised in the media and on social media for the comments he made on his Facebook page about Mr. Ivor Greenstreet’s physical ability to see the better Ghana propagated by the ruling National Democratic Congress. Sam George states in his resignation letter that he stands by the comment he made on his Facebook page and that to the extent that anyone is offended by the statement, he apologises “unreservedly and unconditionally.” Over the weekend, the NDC held its National Delegates Conference to elect the remaining national officers of the Party. At the Congress, representatives from across the political divide read solidarity messages. Mr. Greenstreet delivered the solidarity message from the CPP and in his delivery, criticised the shameless manner in which members of the NDC were exchanging gifts instead of addressing issues facing the ordinary Ghanaian and stated emphatically that “NOBODY was feeling the better Ghana.” Immediately after Mr. Greenstreets rather controversial solidarity message, Sam George took to Facebook and posted “Ivor Greenstreet apparently needs some elevation to see the Better Ghana.” This statement went viral causing the Ghana Federation of the Disabled to raise serious objections to the statement. Nevertheless, Sam George maintained that he had said nothing wrong. In the last few months, Sam George has been the centre of controversial comments that has dragged the Presidency into disrepute. He has uttered unsavoury remarks about leading personalities in Ghana including successful businessmen such as Ken Ofori-Atta, Kennedy Agyapong and Ibrahim Mahama (the Presidents brother) and also, the 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo. Sources close to the Presidency have disclosed to the Ghanaian Palaver that Sam George is increasingly becoming a “liability” to the President and has been impressed upon to tender his resignation. It is believed that this resignation letter, which the President is yet to accept, is as a result of heavy political coercion. Sam George concludes his letter with firm assurances to the President that he remains “committed to the prosecution of the Better Ghana Agenda.”
