SAMHSA National Prevention Week continues. Todays theme is Prevention of Prescription Drug Abuse and Marijuana Use. Ironic. We dedicate this post to every American suffering from debilitating chronic pain. To date, your medical system has fallen short. Your government has failed you. And the pharmaceutical industrys blockbuster opioids that aim to comfort you, unfortunately, result in the flooding of your brain with narcotics. The pills work, but you are required to risk addiction & death with courage & the hope that your doctor will do you no harm. Meanwhile, you watch state after state voting for your right to smoke cannabis to ease your pain (details as to how always seem to be punted to post vote)--for at this point, any substance that purportedly can do so without the risk of immediate respiratory depression must seem like a miraculous reprieve. Our plea to you is to remain skeptical of all of the above. You have been used before for financial profit. You will be used again. You have our deepest sympathies. You deserve so much better than what our country, so far, has offered you.
