SAN MARCOS/COCOS FIRE UPDATE People who live in the DEL DIOS Corridor and MT. ISRAEL area of San Marcos are now being allowed home. The clearance came from the North County Fire Protection District. To be clear, the evacuation notice was only lifted for these TWO areas. The evacuation notice remains in effect for the rest of San Marcos. Since the Cocos/San Marcos fire broke out on Wednesday, May 14th, the Sheriffs Department has issued nearly 76,000 AlertSanDiego evacuation notices via phone, text or email. Those that have been evacuated can go to a temporary evacuation site at Mission Hills High School located at 1 Mission Hills Court, San Marcos Middle School at 650 W. Mission Road and Escondido High School at 1535 N. Broadway. Small animals are welcome at Mission Hills and Escondido High Schools. Large animals can be taken to Cloverdale Ranch at 2460 Cloverdale Road in Escondido. The following road closures remain in effect for San Marcos: •San Elijo Road from Double Peak Drive to Rancho Santa Fe Road •Twin Oaks Valley Road from SR-78 to Village Drive •La Moree Road from Barham Drive to Coronado Hills Drive •Coronado Hills from La Moree Road southbound •Craven Road from Bent Avenue to Twin Oaks Valley Road •Discovery Road from San Pablo Drive to Craven Road •Country Club Drive from Hill Valley Drive to Harmony Grove Road •Harmony Grove Road from Kauana Loa Drive to Elfin Forrest •Elfin Forrest from Harmony Grove to San Elijo Road 139 Sheriffs Deputies and 108 officers from various law enforcement agencies are helping with fire operations in San Marcos including traffic control. They also work to prevent burglaries, looting and vandalism.
