SANRAL Raising Extra Money SANRAL has struggled to pay its creditors and cover its operating costs with the non-payment of the majority of road users over the last 9 months. Now, the Roads Agency has approached the bond market to try and raise close to R600 million a month in order to sustain itself. The agency has blamed the shortfall not only on non-payers, but also on Gauteng Premier, David Makhura’s, decision to put together an e-tolls review board, which SANRAL believes has caused a loss of faith in the tolling project. Last month, the bids raised for SANRAL only totalled about R275 million, certainly not enough to keep the project alive and well. But will investors plug money into what seems to be a dying programme? SANRAL thinks they will but investors are not convinced. 7am.co.za/sanral-raising-extra-money/
