Finally, Jacob is on his way home. He and his large family are finally free. Uncle Laban has left them, and Jacob is obediently following what God told him to do. 1 As Jacob started on his way again, angels of God came to meet him. 2 When Jacob saw them, he exclaimed, “This is God’s camp!” So he named the place Mahanaim. As they are traveling, suddenly, angels show up! Or, maybe it’s more accurate to say that the angels were already there, and Jacob finally noticed them! Two things happen. First, Jacob says, “This is God’s camp!” Secondly, he gives the camp a new name. Do you know what the name meant? “Two Camps!” Why? Because, slowly but surely, Jacob is learning that God is EVERYWHERE. And the camp that Jacob is at is NOT one camp, but TWO! THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS: —1. This is REALLY important: Jacob was acting in obedience to God, and when he does, He SEES the supernatural! Could this be true of you? —2. What if, instead of seeing places like church buildings and cathedrals as “holy places,” we began to truly understand that God is EVERYWHERE? —3. Jacob realized that the camp, which contained everything he owned, and everyone he loved, was NOT his camp. It was God’s camp. I see this as a major step in Jacob’s life. Do you agree? —4. Would you be willing to try an experiment? What if, for the next 22 hours, you were to refer to everything in your life (your car, your house, your friends, your homework, your problems, etc), as HIS? —5. One thing we are going to notice more and more about Jacob as we get to know him is that God shows up in his life in lots of unique ways. Does God still do that today? PRAYER: ADORE the God who is EVERYWHERE. CONFESS to God that you don’t sense Him sometimes. THANK Him for being interested in all the details of your life! ASK Him to help you be completely aware of His presence, and His ownership of everything He created.
