SATURDAY, 9/26/14 LAW. Genesis 28:18-22 “A Pillow or An Altar?” (By Barry) WORSHIP: https://youtube/watch?v=QoLmx5qTunk SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Gen&c=28&t=NLT#s=28018 It had been an amazing dream. He had been exhausted. So much so, that Jacob had used a rock for his pillow! In his dream, he saw a staircase. There were angels going up and down, and as he had looked up, he saw God! God had made Jacob some amazing promises, and now, as he wiped the sleep from his eyes, while it was still very early in the day, he took that “pillow-rock” and used it to create an altar. Jacob realized that the place where he stood was special. He renamed it. And then, he said something interesting. Jacob said that if God keeps HIS promise, I will keep mine! Since God is unable to break a promise or even tell a little fib, Jacob was making a big commitment. And here is what that looked like… —God will be MY God. —I will remember Him in a special way with this altat. — I will give to God FIRST. When I receive something, anything, money, cattle, crops, I will share it with God before I do anything else. Are you willing to make that kind of commitment? Are you ready to see God move in you? Questions: —1. Did Jacob sound like he wasn’t sure if God would keep His promise? —2. Are altars important today? Have you ever made one? —3. In our study of Jacob, he seems like a very crafty guy. In today’s story, does it seem as though he is making a deal with God? Why or why not? —4. So far, do you LIKE Jacob? Are you pulling for him? Why or why not? PRAYER: God, help us to seek You like crazy. Help us to go for it!
