SATURDAY, March 15 Ember Day Psalm 139:2. You know my sitting down and my rising up; you discern my thoughts from afar. God, who created us, knows us completely and intimately. God discerns our every thought, feeling, and idea, understands our every motive for our every choice. God created us and is with us at every moment—present in our times of desperate need and present when we try to hide what we are doing from others and from God. Whatever façade we would like to present to the world, God looks straight through our mask to the person hidden. God sees us when we try to hide our true emotions and hurts, recognizes our anger and sorrow, and is not shocked by our sometimes unpleasant feelings, thoughts, and motives. God knows the absolute truth about us, and God loves us. God loves God’s creation. Nowhere in this psalm does the writer state that God created us to be perfect. We are certainly “marvelously” made but we are not made for perfection. Perhaps we are made for reflection. We reflect the beauty and wonder of God. We can reflect God’s love to each other. We ourselves are a reflection of God’s love. PRAY for the Diocese of Blackburn (York, England) Ps 5 * 138, 139:1-17(18-23); Genesis 41:1-13; 1 Corinthians 4:1-7; Mark 2:23—3:6
