SC: Bar council can recognize any degree equivalent to graduation for purpose of admission in LLB course One can pursue law but for purpose of obtaining license to practice as an advocate, he or she must fulfil all requirements and conditions prescribed by Bar council of India Issue: a) Whether appellant could seek for enrolment as Advocate after completing LLB degree course after her professional course of LCEH ? b) Whether Bar Council of Maharashtra or Bar Council of India has jurisdiction or authority to decide the question of equivalence of educational qualifications required for admission to the LLB course? The Supreme Court held as under: 1) Licentiate of Court of Examiners in Homoeopathy medicines (LCEH) is not a bachelor degree but it is a qualification to practice in Homoeopathy medicine. LCEH is a degree or equivalent to a degree duly notified by UGC with previous approval of Central Government. 2) Bar Council of India has independent power to recognize any equivalent qualification to a graduate degree for purpose of admission in course of graduation in law. One can pursue law but for purpose of obtaining license to practice, he or she must fulfil all requirements and conditions prescribed by Bar Council of India. 3) Where appellant sought for enrolment as Advocate after completing LLB degree course after her professional course of LCEH, Bar Council of Maharashtra was empowered to refuse enrolment on ground that her qualification of LCEH was not recognised as bachelors degree by Bar council of India.- Archana Girish Sabnis v.
