SCAM ALERT (If you fall for it!!) Danny - a guy with a heavy Indian or Pakistani accent called me at 1130a today from the Global Computer Data Center with an urgent message that my computer was sending out bad malicious content. ME: Really? So the anti-malware software, the ESET software and Barracuda Firewall arent picking this up? DANNY: No, those dont work. ME: Which computer? DANNY: the one you have. ME: I have eight computers here. Some running Mac, some running Linux and some running Windows. DANNY: This is a business? The Windows computer. ME: Which one? I have several here. DANNY: The one with Windows. ME: Maybe if you gave me the MAC address, we could narrow down which computer it is. DANNY: Windows computers dont run Mac. ME: Danny, any device with wireless mobility has a MAC Address. DANNY. Oh. What I need you to do is disable any anti-virus software you are running and then go to your Start Menu and search for Remote Desktop. ME: So you want me to use Remote Desktop to blindly give you access to my computer? DANNY: Yes. It will only take a minute to load this software on your computer. Then you will not be sending any more bad malicious content. ME:. Seriously Danny? Are you sure? DANNY: Tell me when you have Remote Desktop open. ME: Let me get my IT guy.
