***SCAM ALERT*** : So today I got scammed out of my cellphone, but probably the oldest trick in the book! I actually handed it to the guy, who took off with it... :-( We were contacted by a prospective client in Witbank (Gerhard) on Tuesday who wanted us to come and quote to install aircons. We made an appointment to meet him on site today (Thursday). We were to phone him when we arrived in Witbank, and he would give us directions to the site, which we did. He then said he was on his way to a meeting, but his employee Johannes would meet us at the fuel station at the offramp (this is where I should seen the warning signs, right?? But I seriously didnt think anyone would go to such elaborate lengths for a cellphone....). Said employee arrived and identified himself as Johannes, and off we drove to the building just a block away. On the way, Johannes said he had left his cellphone at the office and could he please phone his boss about the installation. As we stopped, I trustingly dialed the number and handed him the cellphone. He got out and walked towards the building, and around the side - supposedly to open up for us to get in.... After a few (long) minutes I figured he wasnt coming back and phoned Gerhard from Shauns phone, who laughingly told me it was him who had been in the car with us and had now made off with my phone! He then phoned back and said he regretted scamming a woman (!) and we should meet him at the Balmoral offramp to get the phone back.... Yeah right... So he can take the car too?? He was quite indignant when I told him we would not be stopping at there. To top it all, the cops are reluctant to open a case of theft, and regard it as a case of a lost phone, not stolen, as I handed it over willingly! The police captain at Sinoville Police Station tells me we should not do business with complete strangers... Maybe next time we are supposed to invite new customers for a braai and get to know them for 3 months before doing business! So we live and learn...
