#SCAM Alert - According to this #phishing email, your webhosting account has been transmitting viruses. The message warns that your account will be deactivated permanently if you do not urgently take action to scan and sanitize your website. You are instructed to click a link to run the scan. However, the link opens a fake cPanel webpage that supposedly hosts a Norton anti-virus scan. The page has no connection to Norton or cPanel. A form on the bogus page asks you to supply your website address and your FTP account details and then click the Start Scan button. After you click the scan button, a fake scan will run in your browser for a few seconds before informing you that the scan has been completed. Of course, no scan is actually being performed. It is just a ruse to trick you into thinking that you account is being sanitized. Meanwhile, your site and FTP details can be collected by the scammers and used to hijack your real hosting account. Once they have gained access, they can add scam web pages to your website and use the sites email accounts to send out spam and scam messages in your websites name. They may also lock you out of your hosting account so that you can no longer gain access and taken back control. hoax-slayer/webhosting-account-transmitting-viruses-phishing.shtml
