SCHOLAR BOWL TEAM EXCELS: The Scholar Knights entered the third week of South Central Scholastic Conference play with a 6-0 regular season record. On November 18th, the Knights had a chance to improve that record as they traveled to Bunker Hill to play the Minutemen, as well as the Staunton Bulldogs and the Litchfield Panthers. In the first match, the Scholar Knights faced the host Bunker Hill Minutemen. The Knights extended their streak of shutting out opponents in the first half to three consecutive matches, as they led 220-0 at halftime. The Knights extended their lead in the second half, and cruised to a 370-60 win. Raymond Moylan and Brady Weis led the team with four toss ups each. Elizabeth Medlin scored three times. Wade Rieger, Nick Mueth, and David Kreke each added one toss up. In match two, the Scholar Knights faced the Staunton Bulldogs. The Bulldogs struck first, converting thirty points on the opening question, but the Knights rebounded to lead 240-90 at halftime. The scoring continued in the second half, and the Knights pulled away to a 400-140 victory. Elizabeth Medlin converted half of the toss ups in the match, answering ten of the twenty questions correctly. Raymond Moylan added two toss ups. Wade Rieger also scored a toss up. In the final match, the Scholar Knights faced a very tough 7-1 Litchfield Panthers team. The scoring lead seesawed between the two teams throughout the match. Raymond Moylan paced the Knights by answering five toss ups in the first half, giving the Knights a 170-120 lead. The Panthers struck back by answering the first three questions of the second half to reclaim the lead 240-170 after thirteen questions. Both teams fired away, converting a combined eighteen of the twenty toss ups. Elizabeth Medlin’s correct toss up on the final question sealed the victory for the Knights, as the final score tallied 330-300. Raymond Moylan led the team with seven toss ups in the victory. Elizabeth Medlin and Brady Weis added two toss ups each. Caitie Listello and Alex Hinz also contributed to the victories. On November 20th, the Scholar Knights kicked off their winter league, the Metro East Quad League, by going 2-1. The Knight defeated Triad and Granite City, while falling to Columbia. Raymond Moylan led the team with twelve toss ups. Elizabeth Medlin scored eleven toss ups. David Kreke answered two toss ups correctly, and Nick Mueth, Trent Garagosian, Jacob Trost, Brady Weis, and Wade Rieger added one toss up each. Jacob Deien, Robert Stark, and Alex Hinz also contributed to the victories. The Scholar Knights head into Thanksgiving Break with an 11-1 record.
