SCHOOL BUS SERVICE CONFIRMATION: I am so proud to finally announce the following joint statement regarding our Bus Campaign. Massive thank you to everyone who got involved in the Campaign to save our School Bus ! HAPPY DAYS ..... Joint statement by Cllr Nigel Pickavance, Cllr Chris ONeal and Cllr Sian Gwenllian We have been told by Gwynedd Council that a new local bus company will be running a service for Maesgeirchen secondary school pupils to Ysgol Tryfan and Ysgol Friars from the beginning of the new term in September. We understand that the fare will be 50p per journey per pupil. Cllr Nigel Pickavance said: This is fantastic news. I am so glad that there will be a bus service for the children as it was completely unreasonable to expect them to walk nearly 3 miles to school and 3 miles back in all sorts of weather and along busy roads. I wish to thank everyone for helping the Partneriaeth Maesgeirchen Partnership who spearheaded the campaign on behalf of Maesgeirchen and Tan y Bryn residents. Together, we were able to highlight the importance of securing transport to the two schools from the estate. I would also like to thank former Education Cabinet member, Cllr Sian Gwenllian, for supporting our cause and helping us on this matter. Her help has been invaluable. Cllr Sian Gwenllian said: I have stressed all along that it was unreasonable and impractical to expect children to walk to school from the estate and that this would have a detrimental impact on school attendance. Now that there will be a bus service, I hope that parents will continue to support the schools and encourage their children to take full advantage of the opportunities offered through education. Im very glad that a solution has been found and I wish to thank the current Education Cabinet member, Cllr Gareth Thomas, and Council officers for their hard work in looking at all sorts of options.
