SDPI hartal for the bifurcation of Malappuram district Social - TopicsExpress

SDPI hartal for the bifurcation of Malappuram district Social Democratic Party of Indian (SDPI), a party known for the extremist Muslim sentiments, has observed a dawn to the dusk hartal in Malapuram district. Their demand is the creation of a new district, with headquarters at Tirur. Even though all basic necessities had been exempted from the hartal, party workers have allegedly not spared patients heading to hospitals and passengers gong to airport. Reports suggest that traffic had been forcibly blocked on the NH and main roads and partymen tried to close down the banks by force. Widespread violent incidents have been reported from Malappuram. There is allegation that sufficient police force had not been deployed in sensitive areas to prevent untoward incidents. The ruling Congress and Muslim League are alleged to have observed silence over the matter. BJP and CPM have alleged that the move is yet another political move by SDPI in establishing their presence in the area that has the Muslim community in majority. I had reported last week that Muslim Youth League had demanded the bifurcation of Kerala state. They wanted a Malabar state with Kozhikkode as the capital. They envisaged Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, Wynad, Kassergode, Mahe and Nilgiris as the constituents of the news state. Earlier they had demanded the bifurcation of Malappuram district with Thirur as the capital. Immediately senior Muslim League leaders pacified them. Now, SDPI has taken over the demand. And, IUML and Congress keep mum. It looks like a clear Congress-IUML effort to re-enact the same drama which EMS Namboothirippad had staged in 1969 by gifting Malappuram district to IUML when CPM and IUML were ruling the state together under the banner of Seven Party Front (Sapathamunnani). EMS was the chief minister at that time. T. Satisan Chief Editor mahajyothis
