SEA VEGETABLES of the Salish Sea: featuring Bladderwrack for purposes of introduction to Seaweed. Bladderwrack: Is a brown seaweed easily recognizable by its small gas filled vesicle that appear in pairs. It is rich in Iodine. Assists in Thyroid support, constipation & inflammatory conditions i.e. rheumatoid arthritis. Bladderwrack can be found on the beaches on the Washington/Oregon Coast. You can find it at your local Co-op market in capsule and liquid form. (Fresh is better) you can use this Seaweed in your main dishes, salads, and teas. Harvesting Tips: Be sure to cut them with scissors or knife 1 foot above the holdfast. The holdfast is the root-like structure, it must be left on the rock so the seaweed continues to grow. Do not rinse seaweeds in fresh water until just before using. Why? this will start seaweeds biodegrading. Simply rinse in ocean water then put in plastic bags, place on ice until you arrive home.
