SEATTLE TO UNVEIL SKATEABLE PUBLIC ART ON INTERNATIONAL GO SKATEBOARDING DAY, JUNE 21, 2014 Professional Skateboarders Torey Pudwill, Ryan Sheckler, Felipe Gustavo and More to Attend Red Bull Skate Space Unveiling in Seattle’s Jefferson Park Santa Monica, CA (June 4, 2014) – Red Bull, the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation and professional skateboarder and X Games medalist Torey Pudwill are excited to unveil the Red Bull Skate Space, a permanent art sculpture designed for the City of Seattle that is skateable. The Red Bull Skate Space will be presented to the Emerald City in Jefferson Park on International Go Skateboarding Day, June 21, 2014, from 11am – 2pm PST. Pro skateboarders Torey Pudwill, Ryan Sheckler, Felipe Gustavo, Tom Schaar, Alex Midler, Ryan Decenzo and Joey Brezinski will attend the Red Bull Skate Space unveiling, helping Seattle celebrate this international holiday along with millions of skaters around the world. International Go Skateboarding Day was conceived by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) to help make skateboarding more accessible through various events held in major cities around the world. The Red Bull Skate Space initiative echoes the holiday’s mantra of promoting the progression of skateboarding, building community and bringing all kinds of people together – skaters and non-skaters alike. “This project is a true collaboration with art and skateboarding, and Seattle is the perfect city to host this innovative work of art,” says Pudwill. Named Best Street Skater at the 2011 TransWorld SKATEboarding Awards, Pudwill is renowned for game-changing street skills, which have earned him spots on a variety of podiums, including wins at X Games, the Copenhagen Pro, the Tampa Pro and Maloof Money Cup. Pudwill and Oregon based artist C.J. Rench began designing and fabricating the Red Bull Skate Space together in early 2013 and will officially begin installation in Jefferson Park on June 18, 2014. “Working with Torey and Red Bull to create art that invites interaction and participation has been a dream project,” Rench says. “As we speak architects, designers and city planners are devising measures to exclude skateboarding from the public domain. It’s about time we embrace skateboarding as an art form by creating unique multi-use art where the innovation of the skateboarders can truly flourish.” Red Bull Skate Space will be permanently located in Seattle’s Jefferson Park. Considered by many as one of Seattle’s most enjoyable destinations, Jefferson Park is the sixth largest park in the city and offers unparalleled views of the Duwamish River, the city and the Olympic Mountains. Jefferson Park is a designated District Skatepark location in Seattle’s Citywide Skatepark Plan. This plan identifies a network of safe, legal places throughout the city that can begin to change the way people think about and experience skateboarding in Seattle. The unveiling of the Red Bull Skate Space will take place at the park from 11am-2pm PST on June 21, 2014. Visit redbull/skatespace for updates and more information.
