SEEK DAILY (NBC) Saturday, July 20 Ezra 8:15-20 SECURING SERVANTS FOR THE TEMPLE “And I sent them to Iddo, the leaders in Casiphia … so that they might bring attendants to us for the house of our God.” Ezra 8:17, NIV As a result of lack of Levites to carry out the temple duties, Ezra’s progress on God’s work in Jerusalem was halted while they waited to recruit career and volunteer Levites. The Levites were called out men assigned to do special services in the temple. The fact is that each believer has been endowed with gifts and abilities to make contributions for the Lord’s kingdom’s work to grow. Today, whether you are theologically trained or not, inasmuch as you are a child of God (by new birth) you are a priest unto the Lord (1 Peter 2:9). In the Baptist denomination, we believe in the priesthood of believers, which literally means that every believer has direct access and responsibility to God. As a Christian, you have a role to play in ensuring that your spiritual gift is used to bless your church. Do not wait to be called upon before working in God’s vineyard, look for opportunities to use your gift to serve. Prayer Point: Help me, Lord, to make myself available for your work.
