SEEK DAILY, Thursday, July 17 Deuteronomy 4:25-31 SEARCHING WITH HEART AND SOUL But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29, NIV Idolatry involves pursuing anything that is so important to one’s heart and soul, even against God’s will. God hates idolatry and abhors anyone who pursues after idols. In today’s passage, God issues out stern warnings to His people not to forsake Him and run after foreign gods. What are some of the things that can warrant seeking other gods? It could be such things as; pleasure, productivity and procreation (v. 25a). It could also be a longing for peace, enjoyment, merriment and comfort generally. One major thing that could happen to man, if he/she is careless, is to forget where he/she was coming from. If this happens, where he/she is going will become blurred. Today, different forms of idolatry (cultism, love of money; position, immorality, lust and so on) abound on our campuses and even the society at large. Idolatry takes its victims captive. As believers, let us give our hearts and souls to God. It is only in seeking God that we can obtain peace. There is no peace elsewhere except with Him. He is waiting for you to come back home as you shun all kinds of idolatry. You will find peace and rest for your soul when you seek the Lord only.
