SEIKOS HOME! Ok I just got off the phone with the vet. They called to check on him. THEY ARE AWESOME!! The nurses all have a crush on him and send kisses. So last night was our treck home. Thank goodness I had a co-pilot because this boy wants to go go go!. I sat in the back with him and the hardest thing for him was not being able to lay on that left side. Oh, and the cone kept hitting everything including my face a few times. :) He must stay down, as in no more activity than walking and toe touching for 6 weeks. And no stairs unless someone carries him. So I made my bed on the couch and put his crate in the livingroom. The sling and leash combo is a bit challenging, as he is so strong and walking while supporting his backside and keeping his speed down will take some practice. This combined with the cone and crate was really a bit comical to watch (not him, but me) as I was pulling back on the leash and up on the sling while he was pulling me around. ;) And OH! I forgot to move the sling forward when he peed. So it got a washing. :) And because I kept crawling into the crate to help him release the cone from the crate, but hes got it down now!! He didnt eat or poo the entire stay, but inhaled a meal last night and this morning. He was able to start anti-inflammatories last night and still on antibiotics and tramadol today. He slept well in the crate all night. This mornings routine was a trial and error for us. Christy went out the back door while I prepared big boy with the sling and leash and headed out the garage door. He peed, and not on the sling! He had a big breakfast, his meds and a nap her and there. I have 3 beds out for him to choose from as you can see here, plus his crate has a fuzzy liner and he still has his rug in the mudroom that he chose to use once already. (no not spoiled!). After his pain meds kicked in we did some passive range of motion and he didnt like that. The wound looks great as you can see but there is still a lot of swelling which is causing most of the pain. Ice packs help as long as hell let me keep it on. Under the hip is a lot of pooled blood, bruising due to the muscle tears. They cultured the wound so if it comes back with any bacteria well adjust antibiotics. Christy greeted us with lots of sniffs and curious concern, then happily wanted to play. Seiko responded with his shark like jaw opening and that was where we kept it. Silly boys way of playing. He went out and pooed!!!! (Did you ever think wed celebrate that on FB?). Hes coneless for now as he doesnt seem to bother the wound, but hes always in eyesight just incase. He tries to jump on the loveseat and couch out of habit, so I have Christy manning one while I man the other. The staples will be removed in 2 weeks and another set of X-rays will be done in 6 weeks. Its at that point that therapy will start. Looking into that next week. Will need a plan for the work days for the next couple weeks. He is a beast and if he starts getting back to his old self he may hurt himself even in the crate if he tries to get out after I leave. I couldnt even go to the bathroom without him howling last night. So sad that he thinks I would abandon him again. Thats all for the moment. Again, I cant find enough words to thank everyone for everything youve done. This Christmas was a magical one because of all of you! I truly mean that. You kept me company and supported us in every way during this holiday out of town dilemma. You shared in the emotional roller coaster ride and many of you, I have never met!!!!!!! I am so proud to have friends like you and to belong to communities/families like this. What a phenomenal way of exhibiting compassion, love, and generosity in this world today. I only wish we could let the whole world see this story and how easy it is to love and give. Maybe the world would become a better place again someday for everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and holiday so far. Special thanks are going out to so many. And watch for a video shortly from Seiko himself.
