SELMA I think that it is abominable that this excellent & thought provoking historical drama only grossed about 12 million over this past weekend. Hell - many young Black Americans and Latino youth can stand/wait in line for hours (even overnight) just for the OPPORTUNITY to purchase the latest Michael Jordan (Air Jordans [incidentally - sweat-shopped made products costing about 13 cents to make & selling for $200+]) but cant pluck out $9 to $10 to see this important film! One major (and very suspicious problem) is the high availability of bootleg DVDs of this film (copied from DVD screeners [supposedly for viewing prior to a films release by selected, high profile individuals in the movie industry). How is it that copies have been so easily made & readily sold/distributed so quickly (before the movie was mass released)? This very rarely ever happens (so quickly) - think about the Jamie Foxx/Q Wallis - ANNIE; bootlegs were not flooding the market so quickly before or after the films release. The same with other recent high profile films (Gone Girl, Hunger Games - Mockingjay, etc) - very suspicious. Maybe flood the market to depress the overall box office of Selma? Highly improbable, some may say. Very probable, in my opinion. Bottom-line (whether youve purchased one of the bootlegs or not); lets all go see SELMA this weekend - take your girlfriend(s), boyfriend(s), family, children, partner: GO SEE THE MOVIE (If youve already seen it; see SELMA again)!
