******** SERIOUS F BOMB LANGUAGE WARNING for clip****** Day 25. My Favorite Documentary Film. Finally, my favorite genre. Since Kelly posted Bowling For Columbine (my favorite) already Ill have to move down my list. As much as I want to go for the pure humor and entertainment of Air Guitar Nation (2006) I am going for the exploitative masked as concern and genuine interest. These are films that tell us as much, if not more about the filmmaker than the subject of the documentary and have an underlying uneasiness that may be hard to identify. Im torn between two that I also rated 5 stars out of 5. Both start out as quests for an elusive person who became a subculture hero and purports to document the search and ultimate reveal of that person. The problem is that the search and reveal become more the story of and desired outcome of the filmmaker than the story of the subject. The interests, needs and actual well-being of the subject are subtly subsumed in the name of the filmmakers idea of the story. It creates a feeling of manipulation in tandem with the feel-good ending desired by the filmmaker. In deciding between Winnebago Man (2009) and Searching for Sugar Man (2012) I have to go with Winnebago Man because it is also one of the funniest films Ive ever seen and I truly love Jack Rebney even if Ben Steinbauer is a selfish ass. ******** SERIOUS F BOMB LANGUAGE WARNING****** https://youtube/watch?v=NO05RfHO_4s
