SETHU project to reduce the distance that has to be covered by ships to ports on our countrys east coast!( at present ? ships have to go round Sri lanka!) -for nearly a decade this project is shelved due to objections to destrtoy SETHU -built by Lord Srirama with help from Vanarulu !NOW ? Today I read in EENADU daily about plans to build undersea passage(tunnel) to connect Mandapam on mainland to Rameswaram island so that rail/road connection cane be maintained even after removing present rail-cum-road bridge(Pamban) ; deepen channel so that ships up to 30000MT can pass .However costs estimated at Rs 15000 crores besides challenges to Engineers! In my opinion an alternate plan of connecting mainland to Rameswaram island by FERRIES be considered.In Europoe ! whole train is ferried across sea to ports at Scandinavian countries!
