SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND for DAMAGING WIND and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in the SCENIC RIM and parts of the GOLD COAST CITY, LOCKYER VALLEY, LOGAN CITY, GYMPIE, IPSWICH CITY, SOUTHERN DOWNS, SOMERSET and SOUTH BURNETT Council Areas. Issued at 3:05 pm Thursday, 25 September 2014. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:55 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Cunninghams Gap, the area southwest of Kingaroy, and the area west of Stanthorpe. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Boonah, Kingaroy and the area south of Kingaroy by 3:25 pm and Beaudesert, the area between Boonah and Beaudesert, Kooralbyn, and Stanthorpe by 3:55 pm. Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. ** There is also a severe thunderstorm warning ** for people in the Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields and Wide Bay and Burnett Forecast Districts.
