SHABBAT SHALOM! ~ (may your day of no work be peaceful) and may you be refreshed! Working hard, need to take a breather? Need to be refreshed? We need to stop once in a while and just breathe, take a rest. And God (YHVH) instructs us to do exactly this. This is one reason he established our rest day, the Sabbath. This is a blessing, not a curse. In Exodus 23:12 we are told to do our work in the first six days of the week, and on the seventh day, we are to rest, so that we may be REFRESHED! The Hebrew word for refreshed is naphash . It means to breathe. It also means to be breathed upon... or (figuratively) be refreshed (as is by a current of air). (strongs H5314) To refresh the whole of the person. (AHLB) H5314 נפשׁ nâphash naw-fash A primitive root; to breathe; passively, to be breathed upon, that is, (figuratively) refreshed (as if by a current of air): - (be) refresh selves (-ed). Exo 23:12 Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed (H5314). Exodus 20:8-9 Remember the sabbath day, to keep (Heb: shamar, guard, protect) it (as) holy (set apart). 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,.. (Yes, it is a commandment...but, a commandment with blessing!) Shabbat - שבת (sha-bat) This is the Hebrew word שבת shabbat literally meaning a ceasing or stopping. This word is always used in the Hebrew Bible for the seventh day, the Shabbat, the day work ceases for the purpose of rest - Jeff A. Benner, Ancient Hebrew Research Center The Sabbath is also called a feast day, a holy convocation day (Lev 23:2-4) Lev 23:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts. Lev 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings. Lev 23:4 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. The word convocation is the Hebrew word Miqra... (H4744 mik-raw). From H7121; something called out, that is, a public meeting (the act, the persons, or the palce); also a rehearsal: - assembly, calling, convocation, reading. So the Sabbath is not only a rest day for refreshing, it is a feast day, a day to meet in the assembly for the purpose of reading the Word... (remember the words...not to forsake the assembly of yourselves together? ) How wonderful it is to tell work to take a hike... Im taking the day off. So, get together with friends, fellowship, have fun, eat good food, get in the Word this Sabbath and get rested up and refreshed! Can it get any better then this???? :) Thank you Abba for your Sabbath day, a day set-apart to You, to fellowship, to reflect on You, to meditate on your Word.... to rest...to be refreshed physically, mentally and emotionally.
